Library Presents Free "Cultural Conversations at the Center" Series

-Life After Military Service: Creating Success as a Civilian -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL Broward County Library presents a free program series, "Cultural Conversations at the Center," with guest Dan Ringo, author and Air force veteran turned CEO, from 6:30 to 8PM on Thursday, November 7th at the African American Research Library & Cultural Center (AARLCC), 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311, 954-357-6282.

Veteran and Broward County Library Director Kelvin Watson will sit down with Dan Ringo for a conversation about life after the military, creating successful career paths, and maintaining a commitment to a life of service.

Ringo will also discuss his new book, Airman to CEO: From the Boiler Room to the Boardroom, in which the well-respected Detroit executive shares his inspirational story of how the military took an aimless teenaged-father and set him on an upward trajectory to become the CEO of his own company.

This timely "Cultural Conversations at the Center" discussion falls between Vet Fest 2019, held at AARLCC on November 2, and Veterans’ Day on November 11, and is part of the library’s tribute to American military personnel.

The Cultural Conversations at the Center series takes place on the first Thursday of every month and features intellectually stimulating programs with thought and industry leaders, scholars, educators, filmmakers, artists and others whose work celebrates and illuminates aspects of Black history and culture.

AARLCC is committed to creating programs and experiences that will broaden minds and impact lives for the better. With the library as a cultural center and hub within the Black community in Ft. Lauderdale, the series provides a platform to discuss Black history and culture locally and nationally.

Upcoming events in the Conversations at the Center series include "Beyond Rosie the Riveter: Black Women's Participation in WWII," with a discussion and screening of the documentary SixTripleEight (December 5th).

Sponsorship for the series is provided by the Friends of the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center. For additional information on the upcoming series, contact Makiba Foster at mjfoster@broward.org or 954-357-6176.

Cultural Conversations at the Center is a free program, but registration via Eventbrite is requested.
