Vet Fest at African American Research Library in November 2019

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The upcoming Broward County Library Vet Fest, a multi-faceted event connecting veterans and their families with FREE library and community resources, is scheduled for Saturday, November 2nd from 11AM to 4PM at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311, 954-357-6282.

 In partnership with a multitude of sponsoring community organizations,Vet Fest 2019 features live musical entertainment, complimentary lunch and resources for health, employment, housing opportunities, voter registration and the Veteran’s Hotspot Program. To receive these and other free benefits, participants need to bring military and civilian ID. 

“Broward County Library welcomes the opportunity to display our pride and gratitude to the veteran community,” says Library Director Kelvin Watson, a veteran himself. “Vet Fest is only one of many initiatives we have for our military community, past and present.”  

Saturday's many events include:  

  • Colgate Bright Smile Bus will provide free dental exams for children
  • Color Guard
  • Record Your Story: Library of Congress history project
  • Veterans organizations' information tables and expo
  • Computer flight simulator
  • “Coffee & Conversation with a Librarian” special session    
  • Yoga with Connected Warriors, trauma-conscious yoga therapy for veterans 
  • Creation Station Virtual Reality demo
  • A Legacy of Honor and Valor Exhibit by Buffalo Soldiers Historical Society

Patriotic, military-themed family entertainment includes a mobile video game truck, live music, We Love Our Veterans talent show, puppet performance, Magic Jack family veteran magic show, face painter, balloon artist, family art workshop with Young At Art Museum, Marine Corps birthday cake celebration, Combat Hippies spoken word performance and more.
