BROWARD COUNTY, FL - While repairs continue for the damaged Hollywood Branch, Broward County Library has opened a "pop up" branch at David Park Community Center in Hollywood, less than a mile away, at 108 N 33rd Court, Hollywood, 33020. The pop-up branch is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10AM to 6PM.
A hit-and-run accident occurred in February when a car drove into the library and caught fire. The building and its contents were damaged, and fire sprinklers created additional water damage. The clean up and rehabilitation of the library is ongoing.
"Library services are a vital part of our communities, and we are pleased to be able to accommodate our customers with this temporary, novel location," said Library Director Allison Grubbs.
The pop-up library at David Park Community Center will provide a convenient reading room with approximately 4,000 items, an adult programs space and a storytime space. It will also serve as a location where library materials can be returned and hold items can be picked up. There is a jungle gym at the center.
Programs planned for the Community Center location are English Café and Preschool Storytime:
- English Café, Tuesdays, from 4:30 to 5:30PM, starting September 9
Attendees can practice and improve English conversation skills. Classes will focus on vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar. Registration is required and class size is limited.
- Preschool Storytime, Wednesdays from 11 to 11:30AM, starting September 17
Storytime is a 30-minute educational program for children ages 4-5 and their caregivers, incorporating stories, songs, and rhymes to foster early literacy and school readiness skills, such as language development, attention, and social interaction. Registration is required and class size is limited.
The entrance to the library is located at the back of the David Park Community Center building.
