BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County's Animal Care and Parks and Recreation agencies are joining forces with non-profit Petco Love and other animal welfare groups across Florida on a shared mission to find homes for 2,000 dogs and cats in shelters. Through collaboration with other local shelters, 60 dogs will be available for adoption at the Petco Love Florida MEGA Adoption Event on Saturday, June 28, from 9AM - 1PM at Tree Tops Park in Davie. Adoption fees are waived, however, the pet registration fee of $25 for micro-chipped pets and $55 for non-micro-chipped pets will be collected. The park's regular weekend gate entrance fee of $3/vehicle (for 8 or fewer occupants) will be in effect.
"South Florida is a place where families and animals can thrive. Our shelters are at a tipping point. That's why Animal Care is proud to join this powerful coalition - to relieve overwhelmed shelters, give deserving pets a second chance, and help families across our region grow through adoption. The Petco Love Florida MEGA Adoption Event is a major step toward building the kind of compassionate, animal-supporting community we all want to see. And with your help, our community can make this life-saving effort a resounding success," said Doug Brightwell, Broward County Animal Care Director.
The County's Parks and Recreation Division is serving as event host and initiative partner. "Parks and dogs have a lot of benefits in common. Pets and parks reduce stress and anxiety and encourage an active, healthy lifestyle that includes social interaction among dog lovers and owners, building a sense of community. After your adoption, we hope you and your new pet will visit Tree Tops Park or one of our other regional parks that allow dogs on six-foot leashes or to our leash-free dog parks at Markham Park and Quiet Waters," said Dan West, Broward County Parks and Recreation Director.
Last year's Petco Love Florida MEGA Adoption Event saw 1,949 dogs and cats adopted into new, loving homes across the state. The 2025 event includes nearly 50 organizations across 31 counties. All pets will be spayed or neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.
"There is nothing more powerful than the moment a shelter pet meets their new family and that's the heart of this incredible statewide event," said Susanne Kogut, President of Petco Love. "By uniting animal welfare organizations across Florida, we're not only finding homes for pets, we're creating thousands of new beginnings filled with hope, healing, and unconditional love. That's the power of community, and that's the power of love."
