BROWARD
COUNTY, FL - The Marine
Resources Section, under the Resilience Environment Department's Natural
Resources Division, has announced the official launch of a new podcast series, South
Florida Reef Rangers.
Aimed towards
school-aged children, the podcast uncovers South Florida's marine wonders as
hosts snorkel vibrant reefs and sail into deep-sea discoveries, revealing
incredible creatures, fascinating facts, and real ways to protect our waters
while chatting with marine animals to uncover their diets, habitats, and
survival strategies.
The first
episode, released on June 11, features Sabrina, a marine biologist for Broward
County, on an offshore adventure in search of a balloon fish. The episode
introduces the concept of adaptations and discusses the pelagic zone, one of
the five zones of the water column. New episodes are planned for the first of
each month.
Each episode
will begin with a Broward County marine biologist providing details about the
day's excursion, such as going out on a boat or swimming to a reef from the beach and will include the necessary items needed. Additional safety
information is provided, including safe boating tips, reminders about utilizing
dive flags, and other opportunities for public education regarding best
practices when partaking in water-based activities. Clues are also given at the
beginning of the episode for listeners to guess what creature is being
interviewed. Episodes end with the opportunity for audience to apply their
newly gained knowledge. With humor, storytelling, and interactive challenges, South
Florida Reef Rangers makes learning about the ocean exciting and
unforgettable.
Broward County
has also launched Broward Connects, a new podcast developed by the Office of Public
Communications, to give an inside look at local government, the people making a
difference, and the events shaping our community. From policy updates to
human-interest stories, the series will bring engaging conversations to inform,
inspire, and connect residents to the place they call home. Whether you're a
resident, visitor, or simply curious about Broward County, this is your
front-row seat to everything that matters. The first episode was released on June 3 and features Cognizant Major League Cricket coming to Broward
County Stadium in Lauderhill for the first time with nine exciting matches July 1-6.
