Major Bridge Project in Plantation

- Work begins Tuesday, May 27 -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Public Works' Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) will begin a major bridge rehabilitation project in Plantation, on North Pine Island Road between Sunrise Boulevard and Sunset Strip (see map below).

This gas tax-funded project will primarily address structural issues identified in the latest Florida Department of Transportation bridge inspection report. Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 27, and expected to be completed by December 2025, barring any unforeseen conditions and/or weather-related delays.

HBMD has developed an innovative design and construction method to minimize impacts on traffic, nearby businesses, and residents during the construction period. This approach, one of the first of its kind in Florida, allows most of the work to be performed on the underside of the bridge using floating platforms in the canal, thereby alleviating significant traffic disruptions (watch video).

For most of the construction period, lane closures will not be necessary. However, a four-week period of lane closures during off-peak hours, from 9AM - 4PM, will be required to perform guardrail improvements and the removal and replacement of expansion joints. In addition, one week of nighttime closures, from 8PM - 6AM, will be needed for deck waterproofing and resurfacing. Driveways and sidewalks will remain accessible throughout the project.

Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division can be reached at 954-357-6040 and Project Manager Stanley Bateman can be reached at 954-647-6490 or sbateman@broward.org.

Broward County appreciates your patience as we complete this necessary work.
