Animal Care Updates Pet Tag Pricing

- New fee structure effective May 1 -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Animal Care Division has updated the way it charges for required pet registration tags, as part of its ongoing commitment to make pet ownership more responsible and accessible. Effective May 1, annual renewal fees are now $25 for microchipped dogs and cats and $55 for non-microchipped pets. The County's Tags for Life program-already in place-remains one of the most innovative efforts in Florida to keep pets protected and identified for life.

"Animal Care has simplified how we charge for pet tags while continuing to prioritize safety, convenience, and responsible ownership," said Doug Brightwell, Director of Broward County Animal Care. "This change supports our mission to protect pets while making it easier for owners to stay in compliance and avoid fines."

This updated pricing structure incentivizes microchipping, which increases the chances of lost pets being returned home. It also streamlines compliance with County law, which requires all dogs and cats to be registered and up to date on their rabies vaccinations.

Tags for Life, which launched in early 2025, allows pet owners to receive a single, durable tag for the lifetime of their pet. Instead of replacing tags each year, owners simply renew their pet's registration annually, no new tag required. To register your pet, renew your annual tag, or learn more, visit PetTags.Broward.org
