BROWARD COUNTY, FL - "Planting for our Future" is the theme
for this year's Broward Water Matters Day event, celebrating its 23rd year on Saturday, March 8, from 9AM - 3PM at Tree Tops Park in Davie.
Water Matters Day is Broward County's
signature water conservation event where residents can learn about local and
regional water resources, how water is managed, and how Broward's water
managers plan to meet residents' future water needs. Attendees will receive
tips on water conservation, find out about rebates and incentives for upgrading
to water-conserving devices, learn how to create "Florida-friendly" and drought
tolerant landscapes, and have the opportunity to take home free native plants
and trees.
As
part of the event, the NatureScape Emerald
Awards will be presented to select municipalities, schools, community groups,
and homeowners that have created and maintained model Florida-friendly
landscapes. These are environments designed
to conserve natural resources and provide valuable habitat for native and
migratory wildlife or that have completed
exceptional environmental projects.
Residents attending Water Matters Day can receive free native plants or trees just for learning how to do the right
thing. To be eligible, attendees must visit at least six of the more than 55
educational exhibits and booths at the park. This year's event also
features a Mini BioBlitz and mini-talks from experts in the field.
Admission to
Water Matters Day is free, but the park's weekend and holiday admission fee of
$3 per vehicle will be in effect. Tree Tops Park is located at 3900 S.W. 100th Avenue in Davie.
