BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Library is hosting a free program, Florida's Sweet Crop: Bitter Truths, that includes a  screening of the documentary, Bittersweet Muck, followed by an interactive discussion with the film's creator, NBC6 News' Sasha Jones along with the Sierra Club's Patrick Ferguson, from 3-5:30PM, February 15, 2025, at West Regional Library, located at 8601 W Broward Boulevard, Plantation, FL 33324.

The 2024 film Bittersweet Muck offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into the environmental, social and economic impact of Florida's agricultural industry. It provides an in-depth look at the people and places who make up Florida's sugar industry, including the often-unseen aspects of the agricultural supply chain that affect the quality of life for the industry's workers and for residents in nearby communities.

The screening of Bittersweet Muck will be followed by a live, interactive discussion, hosted by writer/filmmaker Yanatha Desouvre, with NBC6 News journalist Sasha Jones and Patrick Ferguson, Sierra Club senior organizing representative for Florida. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions, share thoughts and engage in meaningful dialogue about the documentary's themes.

"Broward County Library is committed to fostering open dialogue about important issues," says Allison Grubbs, Director of Broward County Library. "'Florida's Sweet Crop: Bitter Truths' promises to be a thought-provoking program focusing on the complex realities of farming in our state."

Florida's Sweet Crop: Bitter Truths is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. For additional information, contact Michael Bryant, 954-765-1619, mdbryant@broward.org
