BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Library's free Blues School program series, held at Deerfield Beach Percy White Branch Library, located at 837 E Hillsboro Blvd., Deerfield Beach, FL 33441, kicks off in January 2025 and features four months of events including free concerts by renowned jazz/blues artists, music-minded movies and blues-based ukulele classes.

"We're thrilled to bring this exciting and educational program series to our community," said Allison Grubbs, Director of Broward County Library. "Blues School offers a unique opportunity for music lovers of all ages to experience the rich history and enduring power of the blues."

Blues School Concert & Classes

• January 25, 2-3:30PM - A Celebration of America's Music with Matthew Sabatella: Featuring songs that tell the story of our country's music, from traditional folk spirituals, fiddle tunes, ragtime, blues, jazz, country, bluegrass and rock, Free/Register
• February 8, 2-4PM - Classic Blues of the Blues Masters with Robert Ross: Enjoy blues, soul and rock 'n' roll from award-winning blues artist Robert Ross, Free/Register 
• February 22, 2-3:30PM - Boogie-Woogie, Honky-Tonk Piano Blues with Kris Nicholson: The musical influences of Scott Joplin, Fats Waller and Jerry Lee Lewis come alive with the keyboard magic of Miami-based pianist Kris Nicholson, Free/Register
• March 8, 2-4PM - Women in Blues with Dottie Kelly and the Rock the House Band: Vocalist Dottie Kelly pays homage to the women who've defined the songs and sounds of soul, R & B and blues, Free/Register 
• March 24-27, 2-4PM - Ukulele Blues School with Chai Latte: Learn ukulele blues in four days with ukulele instructor Chai Latte. Ukuleles provided or bring your own; evening graduation celebration/concert at 6PM, March 27, Free/Register 
• April 5 - Blues School Wrap-up Concert: SENIOR Moments  - The Unforgettable Band celebrates the City of Deerfield Beach's Centennial with music from the 1920s. Free/Register

Cinema of the Blues

• January 9, 11, 23; February 6, 20; March 6, 22; April 3 - Enjoy free screenings of feature movies that spotlight blues and the musicians who play it. All movies start at 2PM; end times vary. Call library at 954-357-7680 for movie titles.
