BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Public Works' Department's Highway Construction and Engineering Division will be upgrading traffic signal communications to a high-speed fiber optic network along the NW 31 Avenue/Cypress Creek Road corridor in Fort Lauderdale (see attached map). This Mobility Advancement Program project, funded by the Penny for Transportation surtax, will begin Monday, October 21, 2024 and is expected to be completed by December 2025.
Expanding the fiber optic network will allow full implementation of new, data-intensive technologies such as adaptive signal control, transit signal priority and queue-jumping for transit, and enhanced, interactive traffic signal control systems.
During construction, contractor personnel and inspection staff will work closely with residents and businesses in the construction area to minimize impacts caused by the project.
