BROWARD
COUNTY, FL - The
Broward County Board of County Commissioners and the Supervisor of Elections celebrated
the grand opening today of a new state-of-the-art facility, located at 4650 NW 21st Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309. This new center is a significant enhancement to the community's electoral
process, providing a more accessible and secure environment for voters.
The $103
million facility, funded by the County Commission, includes modern voting
technology, increased office space, and enhanced security measures. It is open
for early voting and currently serves as a convenient location for voters to
drop off their Vote-By-Mail Ballots. Office hours are from 9AM to 5PM, Monday
through Friday. Voters may visit in-person to register to vote and update their
voting information, among other services.
"This new state-of-the-art-facility is truly cause for celebration. It will allow us to officially carry out the election process and ensures transparency. It demonstrates Broward County's commitment to the democratic process, and voting is a cornerstone of our democracy," said
Broward Mayor Nan H. Rich.
The 155,000
square foot facility, managed by the Broward County Public Works Department's Construction Management Division, is a renovation of an existing four-story
60,000 square feet office building and atrium, with the addition of a new
operations warehouse building, approximately 95,000 square feet. The
secured atrium is accessible to the public and has a large video display to
monitor election activities and broadcasts. The unique Transparency Corridor
encircles the entire operations area and has multiple viewing windows for
direct observation of the entire ballot production and processing activities.
Designed with
resiliency and sustainability in mind, the building has been hardened to resist
damage from severe weather and is equipped with multiple generators to fully
maintain operations during power outages. The warehouse roof will soon be
equipped with a large, photovoltaic panel array which is expected to generate
approximately 25% of the annual energy usage. The building is projected to
receive LEED Gold certification.
