BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Resilient
Environment Department and Cultural Division, with the support of the Community
Foundation of Broward, have collaborated with the Xavier Cortada Foundation to
bring The Underwater campaign to Broward County. Underwater: Broward is
a community-led climate action campaign that uses the power of art to engage
others in a process of discovery, conversation and mobilization that inspires
local action and community engagement around climate change.
Following the delivery of
Underwater Workshops and art installations at ten Broward County Schools, the
County is now hosting a Central County Community Climate Conversation, inviting
residents, visitors and youth to attend on Saturday, April 27 from 1-3PM at the
African American Research Library and Cultural Center (2650 Sistrunk Boulevard,
Fort Lauderdale). This free event, led by renowned eco-artist Xavier Cortada, will discuss health, personal economic and community impacts of climate change,
local initiatives and opportunities for engaging at the community and County
level.
Attendees will be able to participate
in a climate art activity researching their home's ground elevation relative to
sea level rise and create personalized elevation yard signs communicating and inspiring action to address the causes and impacts
of climate change.
As part of a community connection
fair, exhibits will feature environmental programs, community organizations and
advocacy groups, giving attendees additional opportunities to learn about
climate change, community programs and volunteering.
Admission is free and tickets can
be reserved on Eventbrite. Visit Broward.org/Climate/UnderwaterBroward for more information and to reserve tickets. For additional updates throughout
the project and other resilience news, follow @BrowardResilience on Facebook
