Library Creation Station Open House Showcases New Assets

BROWARD COUNTY, FLBroward County Library (BCL) invites the public to a Creation Station Open House to view a refresh of the space and equipment of its Creation Station Science makerspace from 2 to 3PM on April 17, 2024, at the North Lauderdale Saraniero Branch, 6901 Kimberly Boulevard, North Lauderdale, FL 33068, 954-357-6660.

As BCL marks its 50th Anniversary, one of many celebrations is the reveal of a  reinvigorated Creation Station Science, first opened in 2015. The public is invited to tour the space prior to the kickoff of 2024 Summer At Your Library, the theme of which is Adventures in Your Library.       

The special Open House schedule includes an appearance by Library Director Allison Grubbs. The event schedule includes:  

  • Welcome Remarks by Allison Grubbs and elected officials - 2 to 2:15PM
  • Tour of the Creation Station Science - 2:15 to 2:30PM 
  • Exploration Break - 2:30 to 3PM
  • STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Afterschool - 3PM 
Among other enhancements, the number of circulating Citizen Science kits has been doubled. The Citizen Science kits are only available through Creation Station Science at North Lauderdale Saraniero Library, covering such topics as Noise in Your Neighborhood, Global Observer: Trees, Observing Pollinators, Exploring Biodiversity, Mapping Mosquito Habitats, Measuring Light in the Night, and Monitoring Air Quality. Each of these kits provides the materials to investigate and report findings for scientific research and are available year-round for customers to check out. 

Creation Station Science has also added new classroom activities and increased adult programing, such as the monthly "Science Is for All Ages" series.

Creation Station Science offers hands-on, after school programs and family activities that encourage exploration. Organizations such as the Broward Area Stem Ecosystem (BASE), Broward County Schools, local home-schooling groups and local residents coordinate with Creation Station Science for activities throughout the year.
