BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Broward County Parks and Recreation Division has started an $8.4 million renovation at Central Broward Park and Broward County Stadium. The expansion project will significantly update infrastructure at the stadium for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men's T20 World Cup scheduled for June 2024. Broward County officials held a groundbreaking ceremony at Broward County Stadium for the transformational project on February 13, 2024.

"I am absolutely thrilled to welcome World Cup cricket to our vibrant community in Broward County District 9," expressed Commissioner Hazelle P. Rogers. "This unique opportunity showcases our commitment to hosting world-class sporting events and promoting cultural diversity in South Florida. We are honored to provide a platform for international teams to compete and for fans to witness the highest level of cricket's grandest stage on our very own grounds."

The ICC has chosen Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida as one of three U.S. host sites to hold the international matches. With the tournament beginning June 1, the ICC confirmed that the following major matches will be played at the Broward County Stadium: Sri Lanka v Nepal on Tuesday, June 11, USA v Ireland on Friday, June 14, India v Canada on Saturday, June 15, and Pakistan v Ireland on Sunday, June 16. Ticket sales were open for a public ballot from February 1-7 and more than four million cricket ballots were registered.

Broward County Commission is investing approximately $8.4 million in capital funds toward stadium improvements that will include an installation of covered VIP grandstands and general ticketholder grandstands, and related equipment as well as updated facilities for hospitality and media. With the additional seating, the stadium capacity will grow from its current 5,000 to approximately 10,000 seats. The stadium's design ensures an immersive and unforgettable experience for fans. It also represents the County's commitment to community development, economic growth, and a shared love for a sport that is the second most-watched in the world.

"This is an important milestone for the park, and underscores our commitment to cricket enthusiasts worldwide," said Monica Cepero, Broward County Administrator. "The stadium promises to redefine the sporting landscape in South Florida while providing advanced facilities and recreation opportunities for future generations. Beyond cricket matches, the facility will continue to host a variety of events, promoting cultural exchange and community engagement."
