FLL Debuts 1st Florida Airport Store with Amazon's Checkout-free Tech

- Travelers purchase items without waiting in line -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - A new store from Delaware North powered by Amazon's Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One has debuted at Broward County's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The Market on Las Olas is now serving travelers post-security in Terminal 3 along the connector walkway between Concourses E and F. The newest FLL concession is the first location in a Florida airport to feature Amazon's checkout-free shopping platform.

Shopping at a location with Amazon's Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One is designed to be an effortless experience. Shoppers enter by using their credit card or hovering their palm over an Amazon One device at the entry gate. The technology detects what shoppers take from or return to the shelves and creates a virtual shopping session. Guests can grab what they need and leave the store without having to wait in line to checkout. The payment method used to enter the store will be charged only for the items they left the store with. Additionally, Just Walk Out technology allows the store to operate with extended hours, even partially unattended. Now travelers can purchase food and beverages quickly before their flight departs, without waiting in line for check-out.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with Amazon and Delaware North to introduce this exciting store format to FLL travelers," said Mark E. Gale, CEO/Director of Aviation. "As an airport, we strive to explore and embrace new technologies to innovate and elevate the guest experience, and we anticipate this checkout-free store will be well-received by busy travelers."

The Market on Las Olas - which opened just before Labor Day - offers a wide variety of grab-and-go items, including sandwiches, chips, snacks, and an assortment of packaged beverages.

"We strive to improve the speed and convenience of service for our guests," said Eric Haseman, regional general manager for Delaware North Travel in Florida. "Having witnessed the benefits of Amazon's Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One at various professional sports venues across the United States, UK, and Australia, we are excited to introduce this cutting-edge technology to our travel business."

"We are proud to bring Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport," said Jon Jenkins, Vice President of Just Walk Out technology, AWS Applications. "Even when running late for a flight, South Florida travelers will soon be able to grab snacks and beverages with a fast and frictionless shopping experience."

Just Walk Out technology is made possible by artificial intelligence like computer vision and deep learning techniques, including generative AI, to accurately determine who took what in any retail environment. Amazon built synthetic datasets to mimic millions of realistic shopping scenarios-including variations in store format, lighting conditions, and even crowds of shoppers-to ensure accuracy in any environment.

Amazon One is a palm-based biometric identity and payment service that uses artificial intelligence like computer vision and deep learning techniques, including generative AI, to establish a person's identity.
