BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Emergency repairs of the County-owned Sheridan Street Bridge over the Florida Turnpike in Hollywood between North 64th Avenue and SR7 (441) are moving at a very fast pace to minimize the effect of the construction on the traveling public, business and residents. Construction crews plan to complete the project ahead of schedule on Sunday, December 18, barring any unforeseen conditions or weather delays.
As a result, the Eastbound Sheridan Street closure will be extended through this Friday, December 16 in order to enhance project safety and expedite completion.
The project involves permanent repair work to address recent damage caused by an over-height vehicle that struck and completely damaged two of the bridge's concrete beams. Since the incident in October, one of the eastbound lanes of Sheridan Street has been closed.
Traffic Control (refer to updated road closure plan below):
Florida's Turnpike:
Intermittent northbound closures from Hollywood Boulevard (Exit 49) to Griffin Road (Exit 53). Nightly lane closures in both directions.
Sheridan Street:
Eastbound closure until December 16. Then, one lane will be open to traffic. At least one westbound lane will be open during the entire project.
The road closure plan was updated to minimize the effect of the construction on the traveling public, businesses and residents, complete with detour routes (see attached detour maps). Variable message signs are posted to advise affected motorists. Florida Highway Patrol officers are on-site supporting construction activities and Broward County's Traffic Engineering staff is assisting with the retiming of the traffic signals along the detour route.
