BROWARD COUNTY, FL - This summer, high school juniors and
seniors can prepare for college-entry testing with Broward
County Libraries' free SAT/ACT workshops. The workshops hone student skills to ace the July 16th ACT and August 27th SAT exams, which determine
college placement and financial aid.
The primary goal of this college-prep program series is achieving target scores for priority college admissions,
scholarships and student aid such as Florida Bright Futures. Seniors (Class of
2022) can take advantage of last chance tests for Bright Futures. Juniors
(Class of 2023) can use the summer to develop skills and strategies. All
students who attend sessions are eligible to win prizes.
The intensive
program is comparable to that of an expensive ACT or SAT test-prep course. Class sessions include math, grammar and reading practice tests and intensive
test-taking strategies. Workshops focus on fundamentals, technique,
recognition/reaction and timing manipulation. The presenter is Alberto Howe,
founder of AffordableCollegeSolutions.com and former executive director of The
Princeton Review of South Florida.
Parents are
encouraged to attend the first 20 minutes of the first session and the entire
last session. Participants will need pencils, highlighters, notebooks and
calculators. For program effectiveness, students should attend every session
and complete assigned homework.
Preregistration
is required and can be accessed via the library's Ready for College webpage or
