BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Chief Judge Jack
B. Tuter has a long history of judicial duty and today the courtroom on the
17th Floor of the Seventeenth Judicial Court was named in his honor.
"We don't realize how generous our County is to the
court system. I want to thank my friends on the Commission for their generosity
and goodwill toward the court system," said Chief Judge Tuter.
Commissioner Mark Bogen won Commission approval to build out
the seventeenth floor of the courthouse and name it after Chief Judge Tuter.
"With the support of our Commissioners and the
community, we proudly stand here today in the Judge Jack B. Tuter Complex Trial
Courtroom," noted Commissioner Bogen.
"This courtroom will accommodate large complex trial cases and also
host special judicial events. It's something that has been needed in this new
courthouse."
Judge Tuter joined the Circuit Court bench in 2004. He has
been an administrative judge over the family and civil divisions. He was
elected Chief Judge in 2017 and is in his third term as Chief Judge.
"It is my hope that the Chief Judge, prosecuting and
defense attorneys and those who work every day to make our judicial system work
can use and appreciate this courtroom. It's an inspiration for girls and boys
to look up to the success of Judge Tuter and perhaps one day become a lawyer or
judge," said Commissioner Tim Ryan.
Commissioner Steve Geller read a proclamation that
designates today as "Chief Judge Jack B. Tuter Day" in Broward
County.
"Chief Judge Tuter was instrumental in ensuring that
the courthouse remain functional throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, working
tirelessly with volunteer bar organizations to educate attorneys about the new
procedures, best practices, and administrative changes," said Geller.
"His name being displayed across this hall of justice,
reminds us all of our commitment to the rule of law," said Judge Dorian K.
Damoorgian, a longtime friend and colleague of Judge Tuter.
The Chief Judge noted that he was humbled by this
recognition from his friends in County Government, and by the trust his
colleagues placed in him to serve as chief judge of the circuit.
