Check Out Bird Watching Backpacks at the Library

BROWARD COUNTY, FL Bird watchers have a new resource through Broward County Library in the form of backpacks to check out free at select libraries beginning June 1st.In partnership with Broward County Parks, the library will offer a backpack that can be checked out for three weeks containing one adult binocular, a child’s binocular and a guide to Florida birds.

The only requirement to check out a backpack is a library card, available to Broward County residents at no charge. The perfect sighting locations are Broward County Parks, which are natural habitats to a variety of animals, including birds, and offer outdoor activity year-round.

Families can get started on this adventure by registering for the free online program Let’s Go Birding! Basics of Birdwatching from 2 to 3PM on Monday, June 14th, led by Broward Park’s naturalist Sierra Taliaferro as she guides you on the basics of birding. Let's Go Birding! is one of the many free events offered during the Library's 2021 online, all-ages Summer Learning Program: Tails & Tales, which features a summer filled with amazing, animal- and nature-themed programs and activities as well as chances to win great prizes.

You can borrow a backpack at any of the 10 library locations listed: Carver Ranches Branch, Dania Beach Paul DeMaio Branch, Hallandale Beach Branch, Hollywood Beach Bernice P. Oster Branch, Hollywood Branch, Miramar Branch Library & Education Center, Pembroke Pines/Walter C.
