County Offers Alternative Methods to Receive Services
  
  

BROWARD COUNTY, FL In response to COVID-19 and to help reduce its spread, Broward County is reminding residents of various ways they can receive local government services, without visiting government facilities. These alternatives are being offered to help protect the public and County employees.

 

Until further notice, the following services are available through these alternate means, rather than through the County facilities that offer them, which will be restricted from public foot traffic for these transactions until further notice. 

Animal Care

  • Adopt or foster a pet online – Residents who are interested in adopting or fostering a dog or cat may select a pet from the Animal Care website at Broward.org/Animal and apply online. Customer Service Representatives will contact applicants to complete the process and schedule a time for pet pickup.

  • Purchase pet license tags online –The County pet license tag can be  purchased and renewed online at broward.org/animal.  A copy of a recent Rabies Certificate must be faxed to 954-359-6294 or e-mailed to Animal Care offices at rabies_certs@broward.org. The public is reminded that residents can contact local veterinary offices that sell the County tag. For a complete list of Tag Suppliers, visit broward.org/Animal/TagsAndShots/Pages/TagSuppliers

  • Delay pet surrenders – Walk-in owner surrenders have been postponed.  Those who wish to turn in their own pet can do so by appointment only. An appointment can be scheduled by contacting Animal Care at 954-359-1313 ext. 9758.

  • Continue care of Foster PetsFoster parents who are caring for a foster cat or dog are asked to consider keeping their foster animal beyond originally set return dates. In the event you need to return the animal, this can be done by appointment only. Please contact 954-357-9757 to schedule. All Foster care check-ups that were previously scheduled will be kept, however no new appointments will be scheduled until further notice. In the event of an emergency, Foster Parents should call 954-359-1313 option 2.

  • Suspend the trapping of feral/community cats –Animal Care will suspend the intake of any trapped feral community cats until further notice. Only injured, sick or abused cats will be accepted.

  • Emergency Animal Care Calls for Assistance – Animal Care Officers will continue to respond to emergency animal care calls in the community. Such calls include law enforcement assistance, injured or sick stray dogs and cats, animal cruelty and neglect complaints, bites and dangerous/aggressive dogs.

  • Take care of lost/stray petsResidents who have found a friendly stray or lost healthy dog or cat are asked to report it to foundpets@broward.org.  Residents who are willing to care for the pet are encouraged to do so and will be notified when the owner is located. They will also be notified when it is appropriate to bring the pet in to the shelter. If a person finds a pet that they cannot care for, they are asked to e-mail Animal Care at admissions@broward.org.

Building Code Services, Consumer Protection, Chauffeur Registration, Childcare Licensing and Environmental Permitting, Development and Environmental Review, BMSD Zoning, BMSD Code Enforcement – All these services can be accomplished through Broward’s Government Center West (GCW) Virtual Operations. Auto Tags

  • General vehicle/vessel registration renewals – renewals can be completed via Broward County’s online renewal site at https://renewexpress.com/broward/renewals. Payments can be made by e-check (with no additional fee) or by credit card (with additional fee).  

  • Title transactions or Disabled Parking Permit Transactions - can be completed by mail at Broward County Tax Collector, 1800 NW 66th Ave, Suite 100, Plantation, FL 33313 or contact the Auto Tags Section at 954-765-4697 or 954-797-8733.

Recording of Public Documents

  • General recording functions – If you need to record an official document, this can be completed through e-recording or by mail to 115 S. Andrews Ave, Room 114, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.

  • Search Section - Requests for searches can be emailed to records@broward.org  or mailed to Broward County Tax Collector, 115 S. Andrews Avenue, Room 114, Fort Lauderdale, FL or call 954-357-7269.

  • Passport services – Application services are available at the United States Post Office, or visit the U.S. Department of State’s website at travel.state.gov.

Tax Collections

  • Tax payments – Current property tax payments are due March 31, 2020 and can be made online at Broward.county-taxes.com, at any Wells Fargo bank branch with a copy of your 2019 tax bill in Broward County, or mail to Broward County Tax Collector, 115 S. Andrews Ave, Room A100, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Online payments can be made by e-check at no additional charge. If you do not have internet access, payments can be made over the phone Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5PM at 954-357-6200 via e-check during regular business hours.

  • Local Business Taxes - Customers can apply for new accounts and pay existing accounts online at Broward.county-taxes.com.

  • Hunting / Fishing Licenses - These services are available on the Fish and Wildlife Commission’s online site, mywfc.com, or at various retailers across the County and State (Walmart, Sporting Goods stores, etc.)

  • Tourist Development Tax - Registrations and payments can be performed online at Broward.county-taxes.com/tourist.

Office of Economic and Small Business Development – Small Business Specialists are available to provide technical assistance on such areas as starting a business, how to enhance your BidSync profile, and how to get certified. Please call 954-357-6400 to schedule a Zoom or Skype session.

Housing Finance and Community Development – Information about Broward County’s affordable housing home buyer and owner assistance programs can be obtained by calling 954-357-4900 or you can visit Broward.org/Housing for more information.

Household Hazardous Waste/Recycling (Residential Drop-off Centers)

  • Bulk Waste and Household Hazardous Waste – Customers with immediate need to dispose of their household materials can do so by appointment during normal business hours, which are Wednesday through Saturday between 7:00AM and 5:00PM. To schedule an appointment please call 954-357-8850.

Water/Wastewater Services

  • Billing– Payments can be made by drive-thru at 2555 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33069, by phone at 954-831-3250, on-line at broward.org/waterservices, or by mail at the address listed on your bill.

 

Other County operations, such as the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Port Everglades, Human Services agencies including Broward Addiction Recovery Center, Crisis Intervention (NJCC) and Family Success Centers remain open to the public for onsite, face-to-face service during this critical time. Please be assured that staff will be practicing safe social distancing as recommended.
