County Transit Veteran Bus Operator Heads to State Bus Safety Contest

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Broward County Transit (BCT) Bus Operator Rendol Whidden, a 27-year veteran, took 1st place at BCT’s 39th Annual Bus Safety Roadeo held at BCT’s Copans Garage Facility on Sunday, March 1, 2020.

This is Rendol’s fifth straight win, and his 20th overall since he began competing. He beat out 8 other contestants with a score of 528 out of a maximum score of 650 points. The annual Bus Roadeo is a safety and skills competition for bus operators. Competitors navigate an obstacle course that tests their driving skills and ability to negotiate different difficult scenarios. 

Rendol will now represent Broward County and BCT at the 2020 Florida Triple Crown Bus Roadeo state competition on April 4, 2020, in Orlando, FL, where he has won 10 first place titles. If he wins the state contest, he will go on to compete in the International Bus Roadeo competition scheduled for May 15 -19th in San Antonio, TX.
