Women's Performance Festival and Free Workshops at Broward County Libraries
  
  

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - In honor of Women’s History Month, Broward County Library and World and Eye Arts Center present a series of free arts workshops at five libraries on March 14th, 21st, 22nd, 28th with a culminating Women Crossing the Line Performance Festival on April 4th in the Main Library, 100 S Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301, 954-357-7444.

The series celebrates women’s power, creativity and self-discovery and offers skills in poetry writing, storytelling, mask performance, art-making and dance. Each workshop focuses on a different aspect of creativity to be displayed at the Performance Festival. Attendees may join one or all workshops; Eventbrite registration is requested:

  • Women Write On! A Poetry Playshop, with Marie Whitman 2-5PM, Saturday, March 14th, Main Library, 100 S Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.
  • Storytelling Workshop,with Helen Reynolds, 1-4PM, Saturday, March 14th,South Regional/Broward College Library, 7300 Pines Blvd, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024.
  • Haitian Folklore Dance Lab, with Weiselande Cesar, Saturday, March 21st, 2:30- 5PM, African American Research Library and Cultural Center, 2650 Sistrunk Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311.
  • Mask Making and Performance ,with Jean Minuchin, 1-4PM, Sunday March 22nd Northwest Regional Library, 3151 N University Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33065.
  • What’s Your Elephant? An Art Making Workshopwith Niki Lopez, 1-4PM, Saturday March 28th, Pompano Beach Library, 50 W Atlantic Blvd, Pompano Beach, FL 33060.

The Women Crossing the Line Performance Festival, 1-5PM, Saturday, April 4th, Main Library, 100 S Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301, is a paid, ticketed event featuring art exhibits, feminist tarot readings, interactive tables and performances throughout the afternoon including:

  • Weiselande Cesar and the dancers of Tradysion Lakou Lakay - Haitian Dance
  • Marie Whitman - A multi-media poetic performance
  • Inez Barlatier- an Ayisyen (Haitian) singer-songwriter and neo-roots musician
  • “Women’s Tales”- Storytellers tell true stories about women in their lives
  • Jean Minuchin - “Puppets, Passion and Politics”- puppetry, video and storytelling
