Library Hosts "Ebony Broadsides Celebration of the Masters" Exhibition

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Library presents a free poster exhibit of leading 20th century Black American artists. The exhibit opens January 27, 2020, with a reception at 5:30PM, and will be on display through March 31, 2020, at the African American Research Library & Cultural Center (AARLCC), 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311, 954-357-6282.

 The “Ebony Broadsides Celebration of the Masters Traveling Exhibition” features exhibition posters of leading African-American artists as original pieces of art and expressions of racial pride. Represented are important masters such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jacob Lawrence, Faith Ringgold, Betye Saar, John Biggers, Lois Mailou Jones, Benny Andrews, Gordon Parks, Roy DeCarava, Ernie Barnes, Oliver Johnson, Ed Clark and more.

The show also includes original signed poster art of Elizabeth Catlett, Romare Bearden, Samella Lewis, Barkley Hendricks, James Denmark and Basil Watson, with special artist proofs and studies by Ernie Barnes and A.C. Hollingsworth. This exhibition will also be enhanced with posters from the African American Research Library and Cultural Center's Special Collection.

Founder of Hampton Art Lovers and curator of “Ebony Broadsides,” Christopher Norwood, will offer free curator talks and tours of the exhibit. Groups and schools are encouraged to schedule visits.
