More Saturday Programs at Everglades Holiday Park

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – With any luck autumn will bring some slightly cooler weather to South Florida. Enjoy it by heading west – as far west, in fact, as you can go in Broward County without hitting the Everglades. Everglades Holiday Park (21940 Griffin Rd., Fort Lauderdale 33332; 954-357-8868) has two Saturday programs in November, and another in early December.

Program times vary, but all cost $5/person, with preregistration required by calling Markham Park (954-357-8868, ext. 0) or the park naturalist (954-357-8674), or by visiting Webtrac.Broward.org. Drinking water, insect repellent, and (for daytime programs) sunscreen are recommended.

  • Nov. 16th, 7:30-8:30PM – Night Hike – Experience the beauty of the Everglades after dark and learn about the moon and the nocturnal animals you may encounter along the way.
  • Nov. 30th, 11AM-noon – Slogging Trip – Participants should be prepared to get wet and muddy for this slough slog, as they learn about the Everglades wetlands up close and personal. Long pants and closed-toe shoes required.
  • Dec. 7th, 10-11AM – Fishing Clinic – Led by a Parks naturalist, participants will learn the fundamentals of fishing, then put them into practice. Fishing gear provided by the park. A catch-and-release event.

Recreation. Preservation. Education.
