BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Broward County Library now offers new, all-in-one read-along books, the perfect tool for parents and caregivers looking to reduce their children’s screen time, encourage reading and improve literacy skills.

The new read-alongs are print books that feature an embedded audiobook. Up until now,  read-alongs  were usually a two-part set with a book and accompanying CD or cassette. With the updated versions, children can simply push a button to listen to the story as they read along. No WiFi, computers, tablet or additional device is needed, and there are no CDs or cassette tapes to misplace or damage.

Broward County Library offers both Playaway Wonderbooks and VOX™ Books. The Wonderbooks' collection includes picture books, easy readers and titles for older readers, including chapter books. They also feature a Learning Mode, which provides a fun, educator-vetted question-and-answer session that keeps kids talking about the books they just read. VOX™ Books' collection features picture books and easy readers. Bilingual Spanish/English titles are available.

"Read-along books are a fun way to help children develop their vocabulary and helps with reading comprehension," says Broward County Library Director Kelvin Watson. "They're another way for the library to reach out to our youngest readers and help them to develop crucial literacy skills."

Customers can check out the read-along books at any Broward County Library location or visit our online catalog at Broward.org/Library to browse and place holds on read-along titles. Read-alongs can be checked out for 21 days at a time, with up to two, seven-day renewals.
