BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Transit (BCT) employees will hand out free backpacks and school supplies on Sunday, August 4, 2019, beginning at 1PM, at Dillard High School located at 2501 NW 11th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311.
Team BCT, also known as the BCT Angels, is holding their 3rd Annual Bookbag Give-Away. The charitable group, started by BCT Maintenance Technician Carla Wells and Bus Operator Tinita Brown holds fundraisers throughout the year and uses their own money to provide school supplies, food, clothing and personal care items to the homeless and families in need.
Organizers say no child should lack supplies needed to attend school.
"We are so excited and grateful to be able to give back to our community. Growing up with parents struggling to put food on the table, we know what it’s like to go without, and we have made it our mission to help those in need,” says Wells.
Broward County Transportation Director Chris Walton says Team BCT serves as an example of the role we can all play in improving the lives of others.
“I am so proud of the work Team BCT does in our community and the quality service they provide to those who ride upon Broward County Transit. We too are part of this community and want to do our part to make it better for others and make it the best that it can be,” said Walton.
