Celebrating the 144th Birth Anniversary of "The Father of Black History"
  
- Free event at AARLCC in honor of Dr. Carter G. Woodson's birthday -
  

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Celebrate the 144th birth anniversary of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the "Father of Black History" and co-founder of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), at a special free event of entertaining education, live performances and refreshments on Thursday, December 19, 2019, from 6-8PM at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC), 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311, 954-357-6282. 

This all-ages cultural event  includes speakers/experts on Dr. Woodson and the ASALH; performances by the Art Prevails Project and jazz guitarist/vocalist Lorna Lesperance of Women in Jazz South Florida; a pop-up exhibit on Dr. Woodson featuring items from AARLCC's Special Collection; and a special birthday cake in Dr. Woodson's honor. 

The celebration honors the life of Dr. Carter G. Woodson and his legacy as the co-founder of ASALH, an organization dedicated to preserving and sharing U.S. Black history. It promotes Woodson’s dream, reflected in the ASALH mission statement, “to continue a tradition of disseminating information about Black life, history and culture to the global community.”
