BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Coral Gables office of CallisonRTKL has been chosen to design the phased mixed-use Master Plan for the redevelopment of Broward County’s 140-acre BB&T Center property in Sunrise.
The redevelopment project will add office, residential, hotel, entertainment and limited retail venues to the existing BB&T Center arena, which is home to the Florida Panthers and large-scale concert and entertainment events. The result is expected to be a live-work-play anchor community in western Broward County, just as Fort Lauderdale is an anchor community for eastern Broward County.
CallisonRTKL, a global architecture, planning and design practice, has been creating successful, memorable environments for more than 70 years. Their designs include the Mandarin Oriental Miami and Brickell World Plaza at 600 Brickell, the first high-rise office building to be certified LEED Platinum (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) in the state. The firm recently completed the design for the renowned Boulud Sud restaurant in the JW Marriott Marquis in the heart of downtown Miami.
CallisonRTKL’s local projects under construction include The Plaza Coral Gables, Hilton Miami/Dadeland, and the renovation of Corporate Center at 110 East Broward Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. Globally, the firm has designed the master plan for some of the most notable shopping and entertainment destinations in the world from LA Live in Los Angeles to the O2 entertainment district in London.
After completion of the Master Plan, Broward County will seek to enter into a public-private partnership to redevelop the BB&T Center property along the guidelines set forth in the plan. A Request for Proposals solicitation for Master Real Estate Developer(s) is planned for Spring 2019.
