BROWARD COUNTY, FL – On April 27, 2018, the Broward County’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) received an extraordinary achievement with “zero discrepancies” by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). “This is a tremendous accomplishment,” said Mark Gale, CEO/Director of Aviation. “Particularly since the airport is in the midst of a major expansion program with several ongoing construction projects. To attain a 'discrepancy-free' inspection in our very dynamic and busy environment is a tribute to FLL’s dedicated staff and their commitment to safety and security.”
The Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 139 certification is an annual inspection which reviews the Airport’s compliance with the FAA’s airfield safety requirements. This rigorous inspection by the FAA, Southern Region, took three days to complete from April 24 - 26. The review concentrates on every aspect of airport safety. It includes the inspection of 102,000 linear feet of airfield markings, 500+ airfield signs, 3,000+ runway/taxiway lights, safety areas, staff training and knowledge, wildlife control, Foreign Object Debris, emergency response, and Airport Rescue and Fire Fighter response and training.
The FAA Inspectors were highly complimentary of the hard work that they witnessed from the Broward County Aviation Department team.
All U.S. Airports certified under FAR Part 139, must complete this annual inspection which is a requirement by the FAA.
Additionally, on May 2, 2018, North Perry Airport (HWO) successfully passed its annual airport inspection from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) with zero discrepancies and high praises from the State of Florida Airport Inspectors. The inspection includes a review of all airfield markings, airfield signs, runway/taxiway lights, safety areas, aircraft approach slopes, wildlife control, and Foreign Object Debris.

HWO is a general aviation airport managed by the Broward County Aviation Department. It is located in Pembroke Pines, Florida, and consists of 511 acres with over 411 aircraft based at the airport.
