BCT Secures Competitive $20M Federal Grant

- To enhance community environmental standards -

Broward County, FL - BCT announced a major achievement by its Grants Management Team: the award of a highly competitive $20.48M 2025 Low or No Emission Grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). This funding, part of only 165 awards distributed across 46 states - of which BCT was among the top 16% -- provides essential capital to replace fixed-route buses that have reached the end of their useful life, helping BCT maintain a state of good repair while significantly reducing air and noise pollution in the communities it serves.

The grant, which the team applied for in April and was selected for in November, is a testament to strong cross-functional collaboration within BCT.

Bus Maintenance identified specific vehicles requiring replacement.

Service and Strategic Planning supplied critical mapping and community-impact data.

The Grants team synthesized this information into a compelling application that also helps offset the use of local surtax dollars.

"This award highlights the power of teamwork and strategic planning," said BCT CEO & General Manager Coree Cuff Lonergan. "Securing this grant is a win for our operations, our environment, and our taxpayers."

Further recognition of BCT's expertise in this area comes as Grants Manager Sharon Jackson has been selected to present at the esteemed 2026 National Grants Management Association Annual Grants Training in Washington, D.C. She will showcase BCT's successful strategies for building strong teams and winning federal funding, sharing best practices with industry peers nationwide.
