Animal Care Celebrates Record Year of Saving Lives

- More pets adopted, reunited, and rescued than ever before -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Animal Care, the County's official pet adoption and animal welfare agency, is celebrating a record year of success and kindness. From more adoptions to faster reunions with families, the team's hard work and love for animals made a big difference in Fiscal Year 2025 (October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2025).

During the fiscal year, 3,894 pets were adopted - an increase of more than 160 animals compared to last year. Another 568 pets were reunited with their owners, a huge jump of about 31 percent. Partnerships with rescue groups also grew, helping 733 pets find second chances through transfers - nearly 200 more than the year before.

"These results are a direct reflection of the passion and hard work of our staff, volunteers, and community supporters," said Doug Brightwell, Director of Broward County Animal Care. "Every adoption, every reunion, every saved life represents Broward County at its best - a community united in compassion."

Animals are also finding homes faster than before. The average stay for dogs dropped by almost 11 days, and cats are being adopted more than two days sooner than last year. That means less stress for pets and quicker matches with loving families. The shelter's live release rate - the number of animals who leave the shelter safely - also rose to 82.79 percent, showing continued progress in saving lives.

"We are building momentum, but we are just getting started," Brightwell added. "Our focus remains on helping every animal in our care find safety, health, and love - and ensuring that Broward County remains a model for excellent and compassionate animal welfare."
