Areas of County to be Sprayed for Mosquitoes by Airplane

- Aerial spraying has been rescheduled -

July 14, 2025 UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the spraying scheduled for Saturday and Sunday had to be rescheduled to Tuesday, July 15 and Wednesday, July 16. The same information applies.

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - In response to a high number of service requests and surveillance data, Public Works' Mosquito Control Section will conduct aerial spraying for adult mosquitoes over portions of Southwest Ranches, Davie, Pembroke Pines, and Weston (see map below) between Saturday, July 12, and Monday, July 14, 2025, barring unforeseen conditions or weather delays. The mission will be conducted between 2 and 6AM.

The aerial adulticide spraying will target nuisance mosquitoes associated with recent heavy rains. The identified mosquitoes in these areas are Psorophora species, commonly referred to as "gallinippers." These are large, aggressive, native mosquitoes that emerge from the Everglades and are blown into the area following heavy rainfall. This type of mosquito is not known to transmit diseases such as Zika or dengue, but they are strong fliers and aggressive biters, contributing to a significant nuisance for residents.

Residents with breathing difficulties should remain indoors. People living in the area who have registered with the state to be alerted before spraying will be notified.

The Broward Mosquito Control Section treats areas of the County by backpack, truck, and plane based on surveillance efforts and service requests. Members of the public are asked to help eliminate areas where mosquitoes breed by dumping standing water around their homes. To request mosquito control service, call 311 or fill out a Mosquito Service Request Form.
