Broward County Library Announces 2025 Director's Book Club Titles

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Library Director Allison Grubbs has announced her selections for the 2025 Director's Book Club program series. Readers of all ages are invited to join her in reading and talking about these exciting selections, which include non-fiction and fiction titles by some of today's top authors. 

"I'm excited to share the books I've chosen for the 2025 Director's Book Club, a series of engaging discussions that will explore a diverse range of captivating stories and ideas," said Broward County Library Director Allison Grubbs.

Follow BCL to receive Director's Book Club scheduling announcements. These are free events and will be held at various BCL locations throughout 2025. 

2025 Director's Book Club Selections

  • January: Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See: Inspired by true events, this novel explores the life of Tan Yunxian, a doctor in 15th-century China who finds her calling at odds with the traditional duties of marriage and motherhood. (Fiction)
  • February: James: A Novel by Percival Everett: An action-packed retelling of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn told from the viewpoint of Jim, Huck Finn's enslaved traveling companion. (Fiction)
  • March: The Women by Kristin Hannah: In 1965, when Frankie McGrath's brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, the sheltered 20-year-old nursing student joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.(Fiction)
  • April: BREAK 
  • May: Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant by Curtis Chen: A funny, touching memoir by filmmaker and activist Curtis Chen about growing up as an "ABC" (American-born Chinese) in 1980s Detroit. (Non-fiction) 
  • June: Hijab Butch Blues by Lamya H: A queer Muslim immigrant draws strength and hope from stories in the Quran in this riveting memoir in a memoir told in essays. (Non-fiction) 
  • July: Challenger: A True Story of Heroism and Disaster by Adam Higginbotham: Based on extensive research, Challenger chronicles the 1986 Challenger space shuttle disaster and offers a detailed account of the tragedy and invesĀ­tigation afterward. (Non-fiction) 
  • August: BREAK 
  • September: Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty by Patrick Radden Keefe: An in-depth look at the the Sackler family and how they made a fortune with Oxycontin while escaping accountability for the public health crisis it caused. 
  • October: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt: A widow working as a janitor at an aquarium  befriends a giant octopus that helps her solve the mystery of her teenage son's disappearance.(Fiction)
  • November: These Precious Days by Ann Patchett: In this collection of essays, New York Times bestselling author Ann Patchett reflects on home, family, friendships and writing. (Non-fiction) 
  • December: BREAK
