BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Library (BCL) presents the 2025 NEA Big Read program series in January and February 2025, featuring the novel, To Live by Yu Hua, and the children's book, The Nian Monster by Andrea Wang. The NEA Big Read offers a full line-up of events for all ages, including BCL's signature festival, ArtLit 2025, all centering around the themes, subjects and locations of the two featured titles.

Join the community in reading the two NEA Big Read 2025 titles and attending free programs and activities that include Chinese calligraphy, floral fan art, bookbinding, traditional Chinese dance and musical performances, film screenings, writing workshops, book discussions and storytimes.

"We're thrilled to bring the NEA Big Read to Broward County," says Broward County Library Director Allison Grubbs. "The NEA Big Read allows us to connect with our community on a deeper level, fostering a love of reading and sparking conversations about important themes."

All events and activities are free and open to the public. A limited supply of free copies of To Live and The Nian Monster will be available while supplies last.

The novel To Live by Yu Hua is the fictional story of the struggles endured by the son of a wealthy landowner during the Chinese Revolution. The Nian Monster by Andrea Wang is for early readers (Pre-K through grade 3) and features a brave young girl who must save the New Year celebration from the legendary Nian monster.
