Public Opinion Needed: Redistricting Meeting Tonight in Hollywood

- Community input is vital -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – The second of six public meetings to engage the community in the redistricting process takes place tonight, September 27 at 7PM. The third is scheduled for tomorrow evening, September 28 at 7PM in Plantation.

Every 10 years following the Census, state law requires the County to redraw political district boundaries to account for population shifts and ensure equal representation. Tonight's meeting will be held at the Hollywood Branch Library, 2600 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, 33020. Tuesday's meeting will be held at the West Regional Library, 8601 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation, 33324. The meetings are planned in geographically and demographically diverse locations throughout the County, with future meetings scheduled in Pompano Beach on Thursday, September 30 and Saturday, October 16 in North Lauderdale.

Residents are invited to submit their own community-drawn maps for consideration. Masks and social distancing are required.

Community input is vital to a fair redistricting process. Nearly 50 residents turned out for the first meeting last week in Miramar, including several local elected officials and representatives of the League of Women Voters, the Caribbean Democratic Caucus and Latino Vote. For anyone who does not wish to attend a meeting in person, a virtual meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 29. The community is also welcome to submit comments via email to redistricting@broward.org. More information and a list of additional meetings are available at Broward.org/redistricting.
