Animal Care Partners with BISSELL Pet Foundation to Clear the Shelters

- Adoption fees waived August 16-22 -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Animal Care and Adoption is joining more than 80 animal shelters nationwide to help clear overcrowded shelters of hard-to-place pets and find them loving homes. “Empty the Shelters: Big Dog & Cat Crisis,” adoption promotion is hosted by the BISSELL Pet Foundation and takes place August 16-22, 2021.

Eligible pets for the 'Empty the Shelters' promotion include:

  • Large dogs (40 lbs or more)
  • Senior dogs (7 years or older)
  • Adult cats (6 months or older)

Adoption fees will be waived for every person who adopts a pet from Animal Care and Adoption during this period. All pets are spayed/neutered and vaccinated. Adoptions also include a microchip and a County pet registration tag. The Animal Care and Adoption Center is located at 2400 SW 42nd Street, in Fort Lauderdale and is open for appointments and walk-ins Tuesday through Sunday from 11AM to 5:30PM for adoptions. The shelter is closed on Mondays.

“The Empty the Shelters event is special because it puts the spotlight on the pets who have the most difficult time finding a home,” said Emily Wood, Director, Animal Care and Adoption Division. “All shelters find that big dogs, senior pets and adult cats take longer to be adopted. The BISSELL Pet Foundation recognizes that and is using their resources to help support these pets and the shelters who care for them.”

For each qualifying dog or cat adoption, the BISSELL Pet Foundation will make a $25 donation to Animal Care.

“Our nation’s animal shelters are struggling in the face of overcrowding, which makes BISSELL Pet Foundation’s ‘Empty the Shelters’ events an even more critical tool to ensure our shelter partners can find loving families for the pets who so often get overlooked,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Shelters are being faced with tough decisions, such as euthanizing healthy, wonderful pets. We hope this event and the facilitated animal transports can provide some much-needed relief for shelters in dire need of support.”
