Follow the "Tale Trail" Outside the Sunrise Dan Pearl Library

- New, free outdoor family storytime experience -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Family storytimes have a surprising new venue: a self-guided outdoor walking tour around a pond, referred to as the “Tale Trail” at Broward County Library’s Sunrise Dan Pearl Branch, 10500 W Oakland Park Boulevard, Sunrise, FL 33351, 954-357-7440.

Librarians at the Sunrise Dan Pearl Branch have created an outdoor story experience that travels around the pond next to the library at the City of Sunrise municipal campus, providing families with a socially-distanced, interactive literary experience for children. The Tale Trail is fun for all ages, with most stories geared to ages 2 to 7.

“The Tale Trail is our response to families who say they miss in-person storytimes,” explains Devon Holland, Community Library Manager. “Due to the current need for social distancing, we are innovating to continue to engage kids and caregivers, develop early literacy skills, and have a fun activity out of doors, which is the safest space right now.”

The quarter-mile trail begins at the library and is paved and accessible for all abilities. Each page of the story is posted on a panel along with learning prompts. Free take-home activity packets with a craft project and educational worksheets, also inspired by the featured story, are available for pick-up inside the library.

The Tale Trail is sponsored by Friends of Broward County Libraries, Friends of Sunrise Dan Pearl Branch Library and the City of Sunrise.
