BROWARD COUNTY, FL -  The National Weather Service has affirmed that Broward County remains under a Tropical Storm Warning at this time. Broward continues to experience bands of heavy rain, and potential for wind gusts of tropical storm strength or higher. Broward County is under a Flash Flood Watch until at least 11AM, that may be extended due to extended flooding throughout the area. Broward County is also under a Coastal Flood Advisory. Residents are urged to stay indoors and off the roadways.

Home Damage Assessment Program

Residents are encouraged to participate in the Broward County Home Damage Assessment Program. Visit Broward.org/Hurricane and click HOME DAMAGE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM. Enter your address, level of damage and level of flooding, if any. There is an option to report “No Damage” and “No Flooding.”

Results help first responders quickly identify areas with damage and/or flooding, even before municipal teams are able to canvass the County for an official damage assessment. You can also report through your smart phone (get the app on GooglePlay or the App Store) or call the Broward County Call Center at 311 or 954-831-4000.

Generator Safety

FPL is working to repair outages as quickly and safely as possible. To report a power outage, call 800-4-OUTAGE (800-468-8243) or visit fpl.com to report an outage online. If you are using a portable generator, please follow these safety tips.

  • For proper ventilation, use portable generators only outside. Keep generators away from doors, windows, vents or air conditioning equipment that could allow deadly carbon monoxide fumes to come indoors. You cannot see or smell carbon monoxide. Exposure to this gas can rapidly lead to full incapacitation and death. If you feel sick, dizzy, or weak, get to fresh air immediately. Do not delay.

  • Plug appliances directly into a portable generator or heavy-duty, outdoor-rated extension cord. Be very cautious about where you place your generator because outdoor areas are still very wet and may have standing water.

  • DO NOT exceed the manufacturer's total rated wattage for the generator. Each generator has a rated wattage, which provides a limit for how many appliances it will safely power. Add together the wattage of different appliances.  DO NOT exceed that number.

  • Do not attempt to hook up a generator to the main electric panel of a home or business. Only a licensed electrician is qualified to do this.

  • If you improperly connect to a main panel, power can "back feed" from the generator (including RV generators) into utility lines and injure a neighbor, property or utility crews working to restore service.

  • Before refueling a generator, let the engine cool for at least two minutes. Turn off all appliances connected to the generator before refueling.

  • Always follow the instructions that come with your generator.
