Battery-Electric Bus on Test Run in Broward

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Customers on Broward County Transit’s (BCT) Express Bus routes 110 and 114 to Miami will get to test ride a BYD 45-foot battery-electric commuter coach bus on Monday, December 10th and Wednesday, December 12th. Broward County Transit has been approved to purchase five battery-electric buses which are estimated to arrive in the Fall of 2019.

The bus will leave at 6:20AM on Monday from the BB&T Center Park and Ride on route 110 to the Brickell Metro Rail Station in Miami and will leave Brickell at 4PM on the return. On Wednesday, the bus will leave at 6:10AM from the BB&T Center Park and Ride on route114 to the Culmer Metro Rail Station in Miami and will leave the station at 4:15PM for the return trip.

“Broward County Transit will eventually transition to an all-electric bus fleet and we are excited to introduce this new technology to South Florida. Battery-electric buses will not only lessen our dependence on fossil fuels to improve our air quality, but also save the County money on fuel and maintenance costs,” said Transportation Director Chris Walton.

The electric bus will be on display from 10AM to 1PM, on Tuesday, December 11th at the Governmental Center located at 115 S. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL. The bus will be parked on the west side of the building.
